Week 32 – Manhattan Beach Open is on and people are still not happy.

Last Friday, the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) closed its doors due to financial hardship – thus, cancelling the rest of the tour events.  The City of Manhattan Beach together with the CBVA (California Beach Volleyball Association) graciously decided to sponsor the Manhattan Beach Open in honor of its 50th Anniversary.  The only catch is that the tournament will be using the “old school” rules (larger court, different ball, side-out scoring).
When I first heard that the AVP had shut its doors, I was disappointed.  So many players train all year for this sport.  Some are having the best seasons of their lives and now everything has come to a halt.  For some, it can be quite devastating.  All weekend, I had no desire to exercise because I felt I had no goals.  Then, on Monday, I received an announcement that the CBVA would be hosting the Manhattan Beach Open – the premier volleyball event of the year.  I was so excited.  I immediately called my partner to sign up.  Soon after the announcement, thanks to the internet, people started complaining about the “old school” rules.  I couldn’t believe it.  We went from no tournament to the largest tournament of the year, in a matter of days, and all people could do was complain.  That is not displaying ZAMitude by any means.  Why can’t we all just be happy and accept it as is?

Z-Tip:  If something you love is taken away, and someone gives is back to you slightly altered, be gracious, accept it, and shut up about it.

Well said Barbara! It’s not like the pros have anything else to do this weekend.
