Week 9 – “Staying in the moment” experiment

Last week I promised I would try the “stay in the moment” concept. So, I was in an airport focusing on the “now”.  About 5 minutes before boarding I began wondering to myself “I wonder if this flight is full.”  I kept thinking it over and over as we boarded.  At the end of the jet bridge just after I boarded the plane I saw a flight attendant. I said to myself “I’m going to ask her if the flight is full.”  As soon as she and I made eye contact and before I had a chance to say a word, she said “Hello and I wanted to let you know the plane is only half full.”  Huh?  I was stunned.  Was it a coincidence? Was it luck?  Hmmmmm, cool, but not convincing.
I chose to sit in one of the last rows, in a middle seat with no one on either side.  I had my space and I was happy.  After the flight attendants delivered the pretzels and drinks I started thinking “I’d really like another bag of pretzels.”  Again, I started thinking it over and over and over.  About 3 minutes later a flight attendant walked by and, without saying a word, placed a bag of pretzels on my tray table.  What?  Two times in one flight? That’s impressive.  If I can make the little things happen with a little bit of focus, imagine what can happen with the important, big stuff.  The possibilities are endless. Very cool.

Z-Tip:  Stay in the moment and focus on what you want, not what you’re trying to avoid.  You just may be surprised.
