Week 8 – Olympic athletes – Gold or Go Home?

I’m addicted to watching the Olympics – winter, summer, it doesn’t matter. Thank goodness for the invention of the DVR! And, I don’t just watch it, I get into it.  It’s probably similar to how people watch the Super Bowl. In fact, I have to watch it in a separate room from my husband because I’m so loud.
What fascinates me the most is their mental fitness. Stanford University, after doing extensive research, said that all success is 87.5% as a result of your attitudes.  Your skills, abilities and knowledge make up the oer 12.5%.  So, how do they do it?  How do they watch 4 of their competitors fall down the mountain then have the best race of their lives?  I had to find the answer. So last week I read a book called “The New Dynamics of Winning” by Denis Waitley. Denis has coached many Olympic athletes and is now a professional speaker. The theme that kept coming up over and over was the concept of “staying in the moment.”  Successful people don’t dwell on the past or worry about the future, they simply block out all distractions and focus on the present moment. Hmmmmm, interesting concept.  I’m going to try it out for myself and report back next week.

Z-Tip:  Stay in the moment – (you just might win a gold medal!)

Very Interesting! I must figure out this stay in the moment thing and become unbeatable at beach volleyball.
